フィオリナがHPのサポートホットラインに電話したら
昨日のマーキュリーニュースのコラム
Don't worry about Fiorina; she has a support network
なんですが、かなり笑えたので、紹介します。 HPをクビになったフィオリナが、お土産として持ち帰ったHPのパソコン一式のトラブルでテックサポートに電話したら・・・。 という想定のネタなんですが、フィオリナの問題解決手法とHPのカルチャーのギャップみたいのをうまいこと、テックサポートの対応を真似て比喩していて笑えます。 翻訳にチャレンジしようかと思ったけど、これはきついわ。
Tech guy: HP tech support, what's your emergency?
Fiorina: My printer doesn't work.
Tech guy: Customer name?
Fiorina: Carly.
Tech guy: Customer first and last name, please?
Fiorina: Just Carly.
Tech guy: OK, Carly. Sometimes a device comes unplugged. Plugging it in fixes everything.
Fiorina: No way!
Tech guy: HP Way!
Fiorina: Stop that.
Tech guy: Have you tried disconnecting your printer from the rest of the computing business on your desk?
Fiorina: Spin off the printing business?
Tech guy: No, ma'am. Just disconnect it and connect it back to your USB port.
Fiorina: Nothing.
Tech guy: Hmmm. Maybe it's an internal conflict.
Fiorina: Internal conflict? What's that supposed to mean?
Tech guy: You know. It's like one bit of the system having a culture clash with another bit.
Fiorina: What are you talking about? Can you fix my problem or not?
Tech guy: Work with me here. You need to give up some control. Delegate some of your problem to me. Sometimes it helps to bring in others.
Fiorina: Let go? This is my printer. My problem. And I want to fix it. You can help me or you can get out of my way.
Tech guy: Ma'am, you called me. Listen, let me confer with some of my co-workers to see if we can build a consensus.
Fiorina: Consensus? This is a fast-paced technology problem. This is no time for group think.
Tech guy: Ma'am, I can't help you if you're not willing to meet me halfway.
Fiorina: I regret you and I have differences about how to execute a solution.
Tech guy: Then it's goodbye.
